Member of the Month – Bruno Carbone

If you are part of a community you definitely know Bruno (aka Big Rig), he is a regular in the 7am or 5pm class and loves his bench press. He is always a pleasure to coach and a great member of our community.

We would love to share his journey with you, we asked him a few questions and have a read what he had to say.

Q: How long have you been a member at Proficient?
A: August 2019 

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a Proficient athlete?
A: The environment is one that fosters inclusivity and working to your own goals whilst being supported by the coaches. 

Q: How would you describe the community at Proficient? 
A: The community is one that feels like ‘home turf’. You rock up, see your crossfit friends, train towards goals whilst enjoying some solid banter and laughs. Next thing you know you are a little stronger and fitter – yay! 

Q: What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?
A: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” – Lao Tzu

Q: Favourite music to sweat to?
A: Bianca has some banga playists, a combination of RnB and Dance music.

Q: Least favourite music to sweat to?
A: I think I’ve heard some odd stuff when RB trains us ???? but no country music, scremo or heavy trance.

Q: Favourite movement/workout?
A: Strength- Bench Press and Gymnastics – attempting Muscle Ups

Q: Least favourite movement/workout?
A: Running… oh running.. 

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient Community that inspires and motivates you to be better? 
A: Chris Michael – her stories and how she trains, truly inspirational. I struggle to keep up with her on a good day!

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient community that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!
A: Not chasing anyone, just myself to keep at it ???? 

Q: Favourite post-workout meal?
A:  Ooo has to be those mornings I can head out to bruch and grab eggs, bacon, shrooms, spinach and of course a coffee (or two). 

Q: What fitness-related goals do you have for 2022?
A: For 2023, I am focsuing on making my body feel right and accepting at times regression is the way to progression. 

Q: Describe your athletic abilities in five words or less.
A: Bench Press Bench Press Bench

Q: What’s your background story outside of Proficient? 
A: Oh wow I feel like a Marvel Hero – Bench Boy ha ha. I am married to my love Carla who I’ve been with since 2011. We built our home and moved close to the club in Hampstead Gardens in 2019. Before that I was training from 2017 at CrossFit Iron Mill where I discovered CrossFit. When I am not training I work for Johnson & Johnson as a Clinical Trial Manager working with global and local teams to development new medicines – go drugs! I love my little man Theo (German Pointer x Lab), keeping fit and probably eating too much.
