Personal Training VS Group Classes

If you are just starting out, or have been training for what feels like forever here are some of the differences between group class coaching and personal training you might not have thought about before.

In short they are two very different styles of training. Lets dive in.

Personal Training

Personal training is designed to be a one-on-one, two-on-one or three-on-one private session. These sessions are dedicated to the individual, with customised programming to suit your goals. You get full access to your coach, and get all eyes on you for 30-60 minutes.

This is great for beginner athletes who want the attention to detail, making sure they are moving safely while learning in a private setting. Personal training also offers a tailored experience to ensure you are progressing towards your goals, following a specific structure that you can guarantee is working for you.

This is great for all athletes who want to be guided through their training session. Yes, you get a coach for group classes but they might have more than 10 other athletes to help as well.

Personal Training is ideal for athletes who have specific injuries that need attention or focus, those who like a flexible schedule and prefer the one-on-one approach.

As the famous Mexican Taco ad says “why can’t we have both?”. Personal training can be combined with group training. For athletes who thrive off of a group class setting but want a more tailored approach, having a mixture of personal training and group classes allows athletes to have dedicated coaching time to work on skills, and progress faster.

Group Classes

I love working with the group classes, the energy that each individual brings creates a community vibe. Group classes mean fun with friends as coaches tailor one general workout to the needs of each individual.

The class program although not specifically tailored to you, can be adjusted to ensure you get a great workout in. Check out our blog about What is Scaling to understand more about how we do this.

Both paths are great options. If you don’t know which one suits you then you can give both a try. All group class members start with our On-Ramp program. Our On-Ramp program is 4 x 45 minute Personal Training sessions to kickstart your journey, ask all the questions you want, familiarise yourself with the gym and meet your coaches.
