Member of the Month – November

Meet our member of the month for November, Gary! He hasn’t been part of our community for long but feels like he has been here forever!

Give him a heavy barbell and he is one happy chap!

Q: How long have you been a member at Proficient?
A: Since August 2023, so about 5 months

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a Proficient athlete?
A: It’s like a massive playground when I step into the box at Crossfit Proficient! Good vibes, great sweat, solid gains and a wonderful community.

Q: How would you describe the community at Proficient? 
A: The community is at the heart of CFP. They are so welcoming, encouraging and supportive. Everyone backs each other 100% in achieving their goals. There is genuine unconditional encouragement from everyone in the community. I feel like I’m part of one big (and fit) family!

Q: What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?
A: Do it! The energy in a group is electric and I feed off the awesome vibes of the other members in pushing myself to meet and beat my goals. Plus there’s always joy in doing something challenging together haha!!

Q: Favourite music to sweat to?
A: I love dance remixes! Take a disco/dance tune from the 90’s and add some doof-doof to it!!

Q: Least favourite music to sweat to?
A: Classical- how does anyone workout to a flute?

Q: Favourite movement/workout?
A: Big, heavy barbell movements and gymnastic stuff. In saying that, Annie is a favourite of mine

Q: Least favourite movement/workout?
A: Wall balls can get xoxoxo

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient Community that inspires and motivates you to be better? 
A: The 6am crew! Seeing others giving their 100% in a workout encourages me to be better.

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient community that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!
A: Jesty- I’m coming for those muscle-us and handstands. Watch out brother!

Q: Favourite post-workout meal?
A:  Protein Shake with a dash of cinnamon

Q: What fitness-related goals do you have for 2024?
A: I want to get my bar muscle-ups and work towards handstand walks.

Q: Describe your athletic abilities in five words or less.
A: Goes heavy and fast- no regrets!

Q: What’s your background story outside of Proficient? 
A: I work within the psychology field and have found exercise to be a wonderful stimulant for me. Outside of this I love my family, friends, and tinkering in the shed!
