Member of the MONTH – APRIL

Meet our April member of the month, Sakila! Each week she comes in and put in everything she has. If there is something new she hasn’t tried, she will always give it a try.


Take a moment to read her journey so far.

Q: How long have you been a member at Proficient?
A: I joined in February 2022, so over 1 year now.

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a Proficient athlete?
A: The community, the people, the coaches and the opportunity to improve myself physically and mentally everyday.

Q: How would you describe the community at Proficient? 
A: The Proficient community is a supportive and inclusive community. I find everyone to be very friendly and as someone who used to be anxious about group sessions, I found myself being able to fit in well with everyone.

Q: What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?

A: Initially it may seem intimidating from a distance, but once you begin you realise that everyone and including yourself, being too focused on trying to improve and get through a WOD. As a result, I found that after joining Proficient and attending a few sessions, the anxiety went away by itself and now I look forward to coming to Proficient every morning.

Q: Favourite music to sweat to?
A: Too busy surviving WODs to pay attention to music in the background.

Q: Least favourite music to sweat to?
A: Wait, you had music playing in the background during WODs!!! Emoji

Q: Favourite movement/workout?
A: Deadlift – I find that I am able to lift the most weight with this movement plus the movement feels more natural to me.

Q: Least favourite movement/workout?
A: Snatch – I strongly hate it with all my heart.

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient Community that inspires and motivates you to be better? 
A: My son, Ahad, who first introduced me to Proficient back in 2022 and the rest is history.

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient community that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!
A: I think we are all trying to improve in our own way. As long as I am better than my previous self both physically and mentally, I am happy.

Q: Favourite post-workout meal?
A: Oats with maple syrup and berries that I prepare the night before – learnt it from Bianca.
